Commons statement on MPs’ security after murder of Ann Widdecombe

A government minister will make a statement in the House of Commons later following the murder of former Tory minister Ann Widdecombe.

The statement is expected to focus on the security of MPs and elected representatives, and not on the circumstances of Widdecombe’s death, as there is an ongoing police investigation.

The former Tory MP and minister was found dead in her home on Thursday, and a murder investigation was subsequently launched.
