Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez has described the new agreement with the UK on Gibraltar as “historic”, saying it marks the fall of “the last wall in continental Europe”. The deal gives Spain Schengen powers at Gibraltar’s port and airport and establishes a customs union with the EU. Sanchez said it will benefit 300,000 people in the Campo de Gibraltar area and open a new chapter of coexistence and shared prosperity with the UK.
