Türkiye Trains Somali Troops as Peacekeeping Mission Faces Uncertainty

Somalia is preparing for a major shift in its security set up after the United States announced it will end funding for the African Union peacekeeping mission at the end of 2026. As Somali forces continue to take on greater security responsibilities, Türkiye’s Turksom Military Academy in Mogadishu is training thousands of soldiers under a bilateral defence partnership. Sustaining military gains against Al Shabaab will depend on long-term funding, stronger institutions and continued international support. TRT World’s Mohamed Kahiye reports from Mogadishu.
