France is battling one of its most severe wildfire seasons as major blazes continue to burn across several regions. The largest fire, in Gironde, has scorched around 42,000 hectares, forcing more than 220,000 people to evacuate. Authorities say over 13,500 wildfires have been recorded nationwide this season, with more than 116,000 hectares burned. French officials warn the fire season is "far from over" despite deploying one of Europe’s largest aerial firefighting fleets.
