The world was warned a massacre was coming in Sudan. It happened in El-Fasher. Now the same warning signs are appearing again, this time in El-Obeid, where half a million people have been cut off from food, water and medical supplies for more than 18 months, facing drone strikes and sexual violence. Residents in El-Obeid tell DW about their daily struggle to survive. DW correspondent Mariel Müller, who reported from Sudan in 2024 and spoke with survivors of RSF brutality, draws on that experience. Could this be Sudan’s next mass atrocity in the making?
