Colombia’s President-elect, Abelardo de la Espriella, met Israeli Foreign Minister Gideon Saar on Friday ahead of his inauguration, breaking with his predecessor Gustavo Petro’s pro-Palestine stance.
De la Espriella received Saar at his office in Barranquilla and described him as a “great friend.” Saar also said on X that a new chapter was beginning in relations between the two countries.
The incoming de la Espriella administration has already announced that it will withdraw Colombia from South Africa’s genocide case against Israel at the International Court of Justice and open an embassy in Jerusalem.
