At least seven people were killed and several others injured in a stampede at the Ashok Dham temple in India’s eastern state of Bihar on August 17. Thousands of devotees were queuing to enter the temple to observe a Hindu holy month when panic reportedly broke out over rumors that an electric pole had fallen along the route. Officials warned that the death toll could rise as rescue and relief operations continue.
