Police and bomb disposal experts carried out a controlled detonation of a World War II-era mine discovered in the Danube River in Slovakia on August 16. The device was carefully extracted from the river and transported to a safe location before being covered with sand and detonated.
The mine was found due to record low water levels as record-breaking heatwaves across Europe caused severe drought in parts of the continent, affecting major waterways such as the Danube.
