Mahmoud Gomaa has repeatedly relocated animals from his zoo in Gaza to keep them safe during Israel’s ongoing genocide, moving them from Rafah to Khan Younis, then Deir al-Balah and finally Nuseirat.
He was forced to leave some animals behind in Rafah, later finding many dead.
He has now reopened the zoo near the Nuseirat refugee camp, hoping to give traumatised children a rare moment of relief.
