Lake Tuz in Türkiye turns shades of pink and red during the summer months as rising temperatures and higher salinity cause algae to produce red beta-carotene and increase concentrations of salt-loving microorganisms. The lake, near Ankara, is on UNESCO’s World Heritage Tentative List for its ecological importance and birdlife.
