Africa Matters: DRC Ebola Fight

The Democratic Republic of the Congo is battling its worst Ebola outbreak, with more than 5,000 infections and over 2,500 deaths. The WHO says it can still be contained within three months with adequate resources and community support. In Nigeria, millions cannot afford a doctor’s visit, leaving free community programmes as their only option. Somalia has revived its shipping industry after three decades with its first ocean‑going vessel, and by opening a direct route between Mogadishu and Istanbul to cut costs and boost trade. And South Africa has returned the remains of 86 Namibians some once used in racist colonial‑era experiments to their homeland.
