A devastating flood has killed hundreds and left more than 1,500 people missing along the Nepal-China border. Scientists say the disaster began high in the Himalayas when rock, ice and water collapsed into a river system below.
Now a newly formed lake upstream is raising fears of further flooding.
We speak with climate scientist Dr. Simon Cook about what happened, what role a warming climate may have played, and whether similar disasters could become more common across the world’s mountain regions.
