Türkiye is supporting an extensive search and rescue operation after the privately owned FILOJET passenger ferry capsized off the Turkish Republic of Northern Cyprus on August 30, leaving at least seven people dead.
President Recep Tayyip Erdogan expressed condolences and confirmed Türkiye’s support for the ongoing rescue efforts.
The ferry, carrying 259 passengers and eight crew, began taking on water shortly after leaving Girne for Tasucu in Türkiye’s Mersin province. The cause remains under investigation.
