About 40,000 endangered loggerhead sea turtle hatchlings have reached the sea from 1,600 nests on Antalya’s Kizilot beach, one of Europe’s most important nesting sites. Volunteers have been protecting nests along the 26-kilometre shore. Officials said about 70% of the nests produced young, though only one or two in every 1,000 hatchlings typically survive to adulthood.
