Japan’s 100+ club just got bigger.
The number of people aged 100 and over in Japan has surpassed 100,000 for the first time, reaching a record 107,677, accounting for roughly 16% of the total global centenarian population.
It’s the 56th consecutive year that Japan has seen its centenarian population grow. Women make up 87.6% of those aged 100 and over, while Japan now has an average of 87.51 centenarians for every 100,000 people.
