Germany’s ruling Christian Democratic Union has suffered more election losses in Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania and the capital Berlin. Chancellor Fredrich Merz has described the setbacks as ‘disastrous’, but has vowed to stay in office. Merz was already reeling from two weeks ago when the far-right Alternative fur Deutschland notched a record 44 percent win in Saxony-Anhalt. Kristina Simich reports.
