On 30 September 2000, the second day of the Second Intifada, 12-year-old Mohammed al Durrah and his father were caught in crossfire at Netzarim Junction in Gaza, and Mohammed was killed.
The footage, filmed by Palestinian cameraman Talal Abu Rahma for France 2, was broadcast worldwide and became one of the defining images of the Second Intifada.
The Israeli military initially accepted responsibility for the shooting but later disputed the footage and suggested Mohammed may have been killed by Palestinian fire. A Palestinian investigation that same year concluded that Mohammed was killed by bullets fired from the Israeli military post.
