A new report says that Switzerland’s glaciers have lost more than 5% of their ice volume this year. The record pace of ice loss is the second biggest drop on record and was caused primarily by Europe’s summer heatwave and low winter snowfall before that. Michael Okwu asks DW’s Chief Climate Reporter Louise Osborne and Glaciologist Dr Bethan Davies what the long-term consequences of glacial ice loss could be and what can be done to reverse the process.
