Tokyo’s endless rain | DW News

For 35 consecutive days, rain has fallen somewhere in Tokyo, setting the longest rainy-day streak since records began in 1886. Central Tokyo has received 629 millimetres of rain since the start of September, nearly three times the monthly average, as El Niño and unusually persistent autumn rain fronts combine to keep the city soaked. We speak with meteorologist Matthew Cappucci about what’s driving the remarkable wet spell, how a warming atmosphere can intensify heavy rainfall, and whether Tokyo residents can expect any relief soon.
