Belgian students join French movement for better education

Hundreds of protesters took to the streets of the Belgian city of Liege and Brussels on Wednesday to demonstrate over Belgium’s French-language education system, with local media reporting 107 arrests in recent days.

The demonstrations were inspired in part by a broader wave of education unrest in neighbouring France.
The government of Belgium’s French-speaking region, which oversees francophone education, increased annual higher education tuition fees for most students to 1,194 euros ($1,280) from 835 euros ($937).
