Thousands marched in Madrid to commemorate the death of Maricarmen Abascal, whose eviction from her home of more than 70 years sparked protests across the country. Abascal was hospitalised for severe anxiety and exhaustion after her eviction on September 23, and died in hospital on October 7. No cause of death has been announced. The housing protests that followed her eviction pushed Pedro Sanchez to call a snap general election for November 29.
