Police clash with protesters as teachers begin indefinite strike in Madrid

Teachers in Madrid begin indefinite strike, demanding higher pay, reduced teaching hours and smaller class sizes in one of Spain’s most expensive regions.

Clashes erupted at Complutense University on October 14 as students and workers joined the demonstration, prompting government officials to call for an urgent investigation into alleged heavy-handed police tactics.

Unions estimate that up to 70% of the region’s 65,000 teachers took part on the strike’s opening day
