Israeli drones have been filmed dropping bombs on the outskirts of Zibqin, a village in southern Lebanon.
Israel has levelled 48 of the roughly 60 villages it illegally invaded in southern Lebanon since the so-called ceasefire took effect in April, according to a New York Times investigation published this week.
“Israeli forces deliberately demolished homes, schools, mosques and roads, predominantly in Shiite Muslim villages,” the report says.
On Thursday, UN peacekeeping chief Jean-Pierre Lacroix urged the UN Security Council to decide on the future of the UN presence in Lebanon following UNIFIL’s departure on December 31, saying a third party remained “indispensable” to preventing further escalation.
Speaking at UNIFIL headquarters in Naqoura, Lacroix said Lebanese leaders and the overwhelming majority of the Lebanese people wanted the UN presence to continue, particularly in the south.
