Israel headed for deadlocked parliament as vote counting continues

Two-thirds of the votes have been counted in the Israeli election, with Netanyahu’s Likud party on 28 seats and Eisenkot’s Yashar on 21. That would put Netanyahu’s party, joined by his far-right and ultra-Orthodox allies, hovering around 56 seats — eight seats ahead of Eisenkot’s ‘change bloc’. Both sides are well short of the 61 seats needed for control of the Knesset. Whoever comes out on top will now have to navigate a deeply fragmented parliament, where Arab-list parties are positioned for a historic result and the ability to make or break a coalition. Bassam Bounenni reports.
