The US says it has carried out limited strikes on Iran’s Qeshm Island in the Strait of Hormuz, describing them as defensive. The strikes come as Washington and Tehran exchanged proposals through mediators, aimed at ending their eight-month war and reopening the vital shipping route. Iran says its plan could be implemented within two days if its demands are met – but a senior Iranian official says the two sides don’t seem any closer to reaching a deal. Joel Flynn reports.
