Former Chancellor George Osborne has defended the UK’s pandemic response, telling the COVID inquiry the UK was not alone in failing to plan for the crisis. When asked whose fault it was that the UK was not prepared to go into lockdown in March 2020, Mr Osborne responded: “I don’t think it’s particularly fair to apportion blame.”
