US avoids government shutdown — but at what cost? | DW Analysis

With just hours left on the clock, lawmakers in Washington have overcome their differences to pass a spending bill to avert a shutdown of the US government. The so-called stopgap measure will keep the federal government funded until mid-November. The 11th-hour breakthrough came after the Democrat-controlled Senate approved a bill passed just hours earlier by the Republican-controlled House of Representatives. The hard-fought compromise does not include any new funding for Ukraine, which many fear could have consequences for the war.
