The Slovakian prime minister, Robert Fico, is wheeled into hospital on a stretcher after being airlifted to Banská Bystrica after an assassination attempt. Fico was shot in the town of Handlová, around 90 miles (145km) from the capital, Bratislava. He is in a life-threatening condition, according to a statement by the Slovakian government
