Iran confirmed President Ebrahim Raisi’s death on Monday after his helicopter crashed in the East Azerbaijan province while crossing mountain terrain in heavy fog. In the aftermath of his death, Scott Lucas, professor of US and international politics at the Clinton Institute and University College Dublin, tells FRANCE 24 that "the [Iranian] regime will rally around [this death] to show that it has legitimacy and that it has mass support, you’re going to see highly organised rallies, you’re going to see religious services over the next few days that Raisi was this loyal servant to the supreme leader and to the Islamic Republic".
