Maryam Hassanein is the first Muslim appointee to resign from the Biden administration for its support of “Israel’s genocide of Palestinians”
Despite huge risks for her career, Hassanein, who was a Special Assistant Office in the Department of the Interior, tells TRT World that she made her decision after observing the courage of pro-Palestine students and hopes more federal workers will quit the US administration.
She becomes the latest state servant to join 12+ ex-US officials who have recently stepped down over Biden’s Gaza policy.
The group shared a statement denouncing the US complicity in the “killing and forced starvation” of civilians in besieged Gaza, a dissent within the US government unseen since the Vietnam War, according to experts.
