Myanmar’s junta chief made a rare request Saturday for foreign aid to cope with deadly floods that have displaced hundreds of thousands of people who have already endured three years of war. The request, however, is unlikely to be sincere according to Dr. Sasa, Myanmar’s exiled national unity government minister for international cooperation, who pointed to a similar demand back in 2008 after Cyclone Nargis killed more than 100,000 people. Authorities used the relief provided by other countries as weapons, Sasa said.
