DW’s Carolina Chimoy caught up with former German Ambassador to the US and former chair of the Munich Security Conference Wolfgang Ischinger in Kyiv.
He expressed hope that Ukraine would be allowed to use long-range missiles to strike deep within Europe, and discussed his proposal that Ukraine should be free to use NATO weapons in any way they see fit, as long as they abide by international law.
He also discussed the importance of Europe’s military support for Ukraine. When asked about the US election, he responded that it was vital that European countries, and particularly Germany, are able to defend themselves without relying on the US.
