Israeli authorities are dealing with the aftermath of a Hezbollah drone attack on an
army base on Sunday.
A Hezbollah drone strike on an Israeli army base left at least four soldiers dead and injured dozens of others, says the Israeli military. In a statement, the Iran-backed militant group described the strike as a “complex” operation and warned Israel that worse is to come if it continues its offensive in Lebanon.
The Pentagon has said it’s sending a sophisticated missile defense system to Israel.
The deployment of the "Terminal High Altitude Area Defense" battery, known as THAAD, will also see US troops deployed to operate it. The announcement came just hours after Iran warned the US to keep its military forces out of Israel.
The UN is locked in a dispute with Israel over an alleged Israeli attack on a UN base in Lebanon that wounded several peacekeepers. Israel’s Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has called on the organization to move its peacekeepers “out of harm’s way” but the UN has said the international force isn’t going to move.
