Jamshid Sharmahd spent the last 4 years in Iranian solitary confinement, where he was tortured and forced to make false confessions. In a trial widely condemned by human rights organizations as a sham, he was convicted of terrorism. Last month, he was executed. Sharmahd was a German-Iranian citizen, who was living in the US with his family – until he was kidnapped by Iranian security forces in Dubai, during a layover on a business trip. His daughter Gazelle Sharmahd campaigned relentlessly for her father’s freedom and urged the German government to do more for his release.
