Palestinian refugees have been able to return to Northern Gaza following the withdrawal of Israeli troops from the Netzarim corridor, which had split the enclave in half. Over the weekend, three Israelis were released in exchange for Palestinian prisoners. Their emaciated condition has intensified domestic pressure within Israel to extend the truce. The future of the enclave remains uncertain following a proposal from the US president to take control of Gaza, after a meeting with Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. This development comes as ceasefire negotiations for phase two are underway. However, as FRANCE24’s Noga Tarnopolsky reported, “talks appear to be in a sort of limbo”.
