Suspended Labour MP Mike Amesbury has said he will stand down after being convicted of assault.
This will trigger a by-election in the constituency of Runcorn and Helsby.
Speaking to the BBC, Amesbury said he would resign "as soon as possible".
His decision will prevent the drawn-out spectacle of constituents recalling Amesbury.
