The sheer vastness of the world’s largest cemetery, Wadi al-Salam in Najaf, Iraq, has been captured using a drone. The seemingly endless burial site is home to many coronavirus victims, which is said to be a factor in Najaf’s spike in cases. The city’s Governor Louay Al Yasiri reportedly opposed the burial of COVID-19 patients moved from other parts of the country, due to risk of contamination. Dozens of the city’s medical staff are now believed to have caught the virus. The cemetery is considered to be one of the most sacred places for Shiites.
