Tens of thousands of people marched through the streets of Budapest, Hungary’s capital city, during a Pride celebration that had been banned by authorities.
The police banned the event after Hungary’s parliament passed legislation and a constitutional amendment that allowed the government to curb public events by LGBTQ+ communities.
Legal scholars and critics have called the move another step toward authoritarianism by the government.
