The former Israeli Prime Minister Ehud Olmert, has warned that the planned ‘humanitarian city’ in Gaza ordered by Defense Minister Israel Katz, would be a ‘concentration camp’.
Last week, Katz told journalists he wanted to establish a "humanitarian city" on the ruins of the city of Rafah to initially house about 600,000 Palestinians – and eventually the whole 2.1 million population.
In a video message released last night, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu rejected growing calls from people in Israel to end the war in Gaza.
This has been widely criticised, with one Israeli human rights lawyer condemned it as nothing less than an "operational plan for a crime against humanity".
The Gaza Health Ministry (GHM) has said the death toll in Gaza is now past 58k, as Isreal continues to strike Gaza.
The GHM said it recorded a 139 deaths on Sunday, among them a group of children who were waiting for water in central Gaza.
The Israel Defense Forces (IDF) said it was aware of the "claim regarding casualties in the area as a result", adding that it works to mitigate civilian harm "as much as possible" and "regrets any harm to uninvolved civilians".
