Activist and organiser, Thiago Avila, discusses how growing up in Brazil and witnessing widespread injustice led him into Palestinian solidarity work, as well as allowed him to see that within a global context of oppression.
Avila also shares what it was like for him, along with several other activists, to be effectively kidnapped by Israeli forces – while aboard the Madleen flotilla, last June, as it attempted to break Israel’s illegal siege on Gaza.
This, as Avila illuminates, includes degrading and inhumane treatment at the hands of Israeli officials who sought, unsuccessfully, to compel him to make a false confession.
Avila’s compassion is reflected by his insight into how the ongoing genocide in Gaza should, with honesty and sensitivity, be discussed with children today, including his beloved daughter.
