The leaders of 32 countries representing member states of the Hague Group convened for an “Emergency Conference of States” in Bogotá, Colombia, on July 15-16.
The Hague Group, formed in January 2025, seeks to coordinate “legal and diplomatic measures at both national and international levels” to hold Israel to account for its “grave violations of international law against the Palestinian people”, according to their website.
The alliance was founded by eight Global South nations—South Africa, Senegal, Malaysia, Colombia, Bolivia, Honduras, Cuba, and Namibia—with the aim of leveraging the political power of other nations in coalition to hold Israel accountable for war crimes and crimes against humanity.
Member nations of the Hague Group have pledged to prevent the provision of arms to Israel, to follow through on Rome Statute obligations to arrest Benjamin Netanyahu and Yoav Gallant should they enter member state territory, and to block all shipments or vessels bound for Israel.
In attendance at the conference, UN Special Rapporteur on the situation of human rights in the Palestinian Territory occupied since 1967, Francesca Albanese, demanded that all member nations immediately “review and suspend” all “military, strategic, political, diplomatic, [and] economic” relations with the State of Israel.
