Manchester police name synagogue attacker as two men confirmed dead | BBC News

Greater Manchester Police have said they believe the synagogue attacker is 35-year-old Jihad Al-Shamie, a British citizen of Syrian descent.

Police said based on what officers currently know, police records do not show any previous referrals for the individual to the counter-terror Prevent scheme.

Two men are dead and three are in hospital with "serious injuries" after a man drove a car at members of the public before stabbing people.

The incident comes on Yom Kippur – the holiest day in the Jewish religious calendar.

Police shot the attacker dead within seven minutes of the first 999 call – officers later made three other arrests.
