Senior Conservatives have strongly criticised plans by Boris Johnson to deploy Royal Navy ships to protect British waters in the event of no trade deal with the EU. The Ministry of Defence said four ships were on standby to deter EU trawlers if there is no agreement on fishing rights. Tobias Ellwood, who chairs the Commons Defence Committee, called the plan was irresponsible. It was also criticised by the former Conservative Cabinet Minister and EU Commissioner Chris Patten. There’s pessimism that a deal can be reached between UK and EU Brexit negotiators on future trading arrangements, before a deadline on Sunday 13th December. Regardless of whether a trade deal is agreed, British citizens will face new restrictions when travelling to the EU and some other countries, including on medical treatment.
