Why did the public viewing of Kenya’s Odinga turn violent? | DW News

Kenya is holding a state funeral service for the late Prime Minister, Raila Odinga. Large crowds have been gathering to attend the funeral. Odinga was a major figure in Kenyan politics. Many consider him a champion of democracy. On Thursday, four people were killed in the capital, Nairobi after security forces fired shots and tear gas to disperse huge crowds at a stadium where the body of Odinga was lying in state. 80-year-old Odinga died on Wednesday of a heart attack while traveling in India.
