Landmark ruling finds air pollution contributed to 9-year-old girl’s death – BBC News

A coroner has ruled that air pollution contributed to the death of a 9-year-old girl from south London who died following an asthma attack in 2013. It’s a landmark ruling — while the dangers of polluted air are well documented, Ella Adoo-Kissi-Debrah is the the first person in the UK to have the effects of exposure to pollution listed as a cause of death. The 9-year-old lived near the South Circular Road — one of the busiest in London. In the three years before her death she suffered multiple seizures and was admitted to hospital on 27 occasions. Huw Edwards presents BBC New at Ten reporting by environment correspondent Claire Marshall.
