Public health minister Ashley Dalton has been heckled as she addressed a crowd at a vigil, held in Parliament Square, after the Bondi Beach attacks (see our previous post).
As she began speaking to the crowd, a man interrupted her speech, saying: "We don’t want your words, we want actions."
Dalton said: "Today we are here to stand together, we’re here to stand together against the hatred and the vitriol from wherever it comes."
But she was again interrupted by angry shouts, although one woman could be heard saying "shut that man up".
Dalton was standing in for Steve Reed, the communities and local government minister, who she apologised for at the start of the speech, saying he’d likely been caught up in government minister.
Facing a growing chorus of heckles, organisers stepped in, urging the crowd to let her speak.
Dalton said she would stand with the Jewish community, no matter how much she was shouted at, insisting peace was the path forward and the government would not tolerate antisemitism.
