Nearly 15,000 nurses affiliated with the New York State Nurses Association went on strike, walking out of their jobs and joining picket lines on the morning of January 12.
NYSNA said the strike was over "safe staffing for patients, health care benefits for nurses, and workplace violence protections", adding that "management at the richest hospitals in New York City are threatening to discontinue or radically cut nurses’ health benefits".
