French farmers dumped about 30 tonnes of potatoes outside France’s National Assembly in a symbolic protest against the proposed European Union–MERCOSUR trade deal.
Growers warn it could flood markets with cheaper imports, squeeze farm incomes and weaken food standards, as Ursula von der Leyen, the European Commission President, prepares to sign the accord.
