European countries are moving toward restrictions on children’s access to social media. European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has backed the idea of an EU-wide age limit, similar to Australia’s new law barring under-16s from social platforms. So far, Spain and France are the only countries introducing concrete measures, while others are still weighing their options. France could become the first European nation to impose a ban, with lawmakers debating legislation that would restrict social media access for under-15s. We spoke with DW correspondent Jack Parrock, and with experts Paul Richter, an affiliate fellow with Brussels-based think tank Bruegel, and Stephan Dreyer, who leads research on media governance at Hamburg’s Hans-Bredow-Institut.
