The elections in Hungary had one of the highest turnouts since the fall of the Soviet Union. Following Péter Magyar’s landslide victory, FRANCE 24’s Senior European Editor Armen Georgian is pleased to welcome András László, MEP for Patriots for Europe / Fidesz. According to Laszio, the outcome cannot be reduced to a single campaign misstep or policy failure. He says governing parties across Europe are all under pressure from economic stagnation. But he does accuse the opposition of a "filthy and hate-filled campaign" that prioritised personalities over substance and concrete policy positions. He warns the newly empowered majority holds significant institutional authority, yet its policy direction remains largely undefined.
